**IVF** European Va'a & Surfski Championship

The organization of the championships is taken care of by the association "Italian Outrigger Tour " in collaboration with the main sponsors "Allwave" and "Pro-loco" of Giglio Island. The Italian Outrigger Tour organizes competitions and sports events since 1999. Its activities are mainly turned to the canoe sport and specifically to va'a (outriggers) which are the oldest vessels used by humans and which today are constructed of composite materials, light and easy to handle, allowing to experience the sea in a dimension different from any other sport, with an eye to the past, to the origins of humans and their migration over sea. After the first three editions of the "Allwave cup" we have applied for the organization of the first IVF European Championship to be held in 2009. The International Va'a Federation (IVF), after having assessed our application, has awarded the organization of the event to us (i.e. to the association "A.S. Italian Outrigger Tour"). . Our thanks go to Charles Villerme (President of the IVF) and Jérôme Friedrich (Vice-President of the IVF, Responsible for Europe).
	On the picture you see the pirogue found in the Neolithic village approximately twelve meters deep in Lake Bracciano dating back to 8000 years ago. It has been by pure chance that the association deals with pirogue in the same city where the oldest pirogue in the world was discovered and that Allwave here builds its modern pirogues is a pleasant coincidence.
